EST. PRIVATE COUNSEL · BY INTRODUCTION ONLY

Where stakes are highest,
discretion is the strategy.

Drachen BrightStar Strategy & Special Consulting advises principals, boards, and offices navigating consequential matters that cannot be handed to a vendor, an agency, or a press release.

I. Philosophy

Most consultants deliver decks.
We deliver outcomes
quietly, completely, and on the record only when it serves you.

01

Discretion as Doctrine

Every engagement is treated as privileged. No case studies. No referrals without consent. No proof beyond what you choose to allow into a room.

02

Human Efficiency

Organizations don't fail at strategy. They fail at the human machinery beneath it—at trust, candor, incentive, and culture. That is the work.

03

Culture Correction

Toxic dynamics, succession ruptures, internal investigations, leader-team breakdowns. Diagnosed clinically. Addressed strategically. Resolved permanently.

04

Delicate Handling

The matters that arrive here typically cannot be discussed at the boardroom table—or at home. Our job is to make sure they don't have to be.

II. Practice

A consultancy with a clinician's eye
and an operator's reflexes.

Executive & Principal Advisory and Leadership Development

Confidential counsel for CEOs, founders, elected officials, and senior leaders facing decisions where the human and political dimensions are inseparable from the strategic one. Personal stabilization. Decision architecture. Off-the-record sounding board.

Crisis & Special Situations

Internal investigations, executive misconduct allegations, leadership transitions under stress, contested separations, and the situations that arrive without warning. Coordinated with counsel, communications, and security as required.

Culture Diagnosis & Correction

Behavioral diagnostics applied to organizations. We surface what surveys cannot: power asymmetries, fear patterns, broken feedback loops, performative compliance. Then we install the corrections that actually hold.

Political & Office Counsel

For campaigns, staffs, and officeholders: personnel ruptures, conduct matters, internal alignment, and the human dynamics of consequential rooms. Strict separation from press, opposition, and counsel of record.

E

Founder & Family Enterprise

Succession, co-founder fracture, family-business transition, and the long-tail consequences of building something that matters with people you love. Where business advisors stop and therapy can't go.

III. The Principal

SOLE PRACTITIONER · FOUNDING PRINCIPAL

Dr. Dace Tapley, DBH · MBA-E · MBA-M · LPC

Behavioraist . Operator. Veteran. Strategist.

Dr. Tapley operates at an unusual intersection: a Doctor of Behavioral Health with two Masters in Business Administration, a Master's in Professional Counseling, and seven years of service in the United States Army—including combat deployments to Iraq and the joint coalition exercise Operation Bright Star in Egypt, from which this firm takes its name.

For more than twenty-five  years he has worked at the place where human behavior and institutional outcome meet—first inside the military, then across community and clinical mental health, and now as the founder of multiple operating businesses. He has restored   people in their worst hours and built the systems that keep organizations from arriving there in the first place.

His method is plainly behavioral, operationally minded, and quietly directive. He does not perform expertise. He does not write to file. He works the problem until it is no longer the problem.

The same questions move a soldier through a hard week, a CEO through a hard quarter, and a campaign through a hard cycle. Knowing which question to ask, and when to stop talking, is the work.

IV. Engagement

How we work

  1. Introduction

New clients arrive by introduction or direct outreach. A first conversation establishes whether the matter is one we should take, and whether we are the right counsel for it. There is no cost or commitment to the conversation.

  2. Privilege

Engagements operate under written confidentiality from the first call. Where appropriate, we coordinate through outside counsel to preserve attorney-client privilege over our work product.

  3. Diagnosis

A short, intense assessment phase. We learn the people, the politics, the precipitating events, and the line beyond which a misstep cannot be recovered. We tell you what we see, not what is comfortable.

  4. Work

Direct counsel. Difficult conversations. Behavioral interventions. Systems rebuilt. We are present in the rooms that matter and absent from the ones that do not.

  5. Exit

Engagements have a beginning, a middle, and an end. A successful one leaves the principal more capable, the organization more honest, and no fingerprint of ours behind.

V. Contact

A confidential first conversation.
